Most games use the same four categories of audio: Music

In-game effects

Voice acting

User interface sounds

Depending on the genre and style, you may be heavily skewed toward one type of resource over another. You may also find that some audio resources don’t fit neatly into one category, such as a musical motif that accompanies the company logo. Is it music because there’s a melody and harmony, and it requires a composition? Or is it a user interface effect, because it appears only as part of the start-up splash screen? Regardless of whether or not you have an in-house audio engineer, you always need to clearly outline the requirements for each part of the project.
